Mom, Nancy, and Lydia came down for a weekend at the beginning of June (May 31 - June 4) since Steve was away on his two month trip. It was so fun to have a girls weekend together. Although, Steve, you would have been welcome too if you were able to come!!! :)
On Friday night we went to the Monrovia Farmer's Market. There were lots of pretty flowers and craft booths as well as the typical fruit and veggies that you find at a farmer's market. They also had lots of activities for children. Lydia is still a little bit small for those activities but we had fun walking around anyway. She was learning how to wave. It actually looks more like she's waving you to come to her instead of waving goodbye, but it's close! I was waving to her before we went to the market and she waved back to me. It was very cute! However, when we were at the market, she initiated a wave to a complete stranger. It was adorable. The lady was so thrilled that Lydia waved at her and when we told her it was her first time to wave at someone that made her day.
On Saturday we went to Santa Monica and I took them to see the Pier and the Third Street Promenade. My roommate Colleen came with us so it was fun to spend the day all together.
I took a lot of pictures of Lydia (as you can see from the few I've posted here) but I'm just going to put a few up. She was haming it up for the camera which was fun because it used to be hard to get her to smile for the camera.
My mom and sister just bought a new video camera so we were playing around with it and I shot a video of her that is super cute. If you want to see it, check out my sister's blog.
It was a fun weekend and it was great to have them come visit me in LA. I think it was a long drive for them because they had to stop quite often for the baby, but they made it and it was great spend the weekend with them! Good thing they came in June because it's pretty hot here now!
Scott came to visit me the weekend of April 20-22. It was so great to have him here. We had a lot of fun going to Universal Studios, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills.
The first few pictures are from Universal Studios. We had a fun day walking around the theme park.
My favorite part of the park was the tour that takes you behind the scenes to show you some of the movie-making tricks. They show you some of the sets used in making films and some areas were closed off so you couldn't see what was happening.
The tour takes you through different settings and tells you how they make things look real... like how a miniature ship can look huge in the right setting.
We also saw a huge stuffed King Kong that was not a miniature. I missed seeing that movie, but this was quite impressive to see.
They also took us through an area where there was a plane crash scene. It was also very dramatic looking because of the smoke coming from the plane and the debris all around it. I can't remember which movie they said it was from, but they said they have kept it because it was such an expensive set to build. They purchased a real full sized passenger plane and destroyed it for the set. I think they re-use sets to help save on costs but they also design new ones all the time so the tour changes through the years even though they keep some things the same.
I'm not a fan of the show, but they also took us through the set of Desparate Housewives (Wisteria Lane). It was interesting to see the fake facades on the buildings that look so real when you see them on TV.
The next picture is of the Hollywood sign. It's hard to actually get too close to it unless you are hiking in the park or have a great zoom lens on your camera. My digital camera isn't as good as my other camera so it doesn't have a great zoom. So, if you squint a little bit or can increase the size of the photo, you'll see the Hollywood sign on the hillside.
The last picture is of a section of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. We drove around the area and got out to walk around as well. It was the kind of place where you know you don't belong unless you can drop a few thousand dollars on a shopping spree without blinking an eye. Kind of sad to think of all the wasted money there. It's a different world!
Couldn't resist adding some more Lydia pictures. Here she is with her momm, her Great Auntie Margaret and just a cute little smile. (Same weekend... April 15th).
See, I'm still trying to catch up with my pictures. It's July and I'm up to posting pictures from April! I won't post all the pictures I take, but just a few from each event. Let me know if you want to see more pictures from any particular event and I'll post those for you.
